Summer Storms, Wind and Fallen Limbs
Thunderstorms, wind damage and trees over roofs.
NEWARK NEIGHBORHOOD · WEEQUAHIC
A century-old chimney leaking, or shingles lifting on the side that faces the park? Find out what the roof needs.
Weequahic's houses are about a century old, and their roofs show it. The neighborhood was the last part of Clinton Township annexed to Newark, in 1902, and it was built up on farm lots after World War I, with Weequahic Park to the east. That generation of houses has brick chimneys, steep front roofs and roof layers added over many decades. Most calls here are about chimney flashing, worn valleys, and roofs that have reached the point where another patch won't hold.

Many single-family homes here have had at least one overlay, and some have the original wood decking under it. When they're torn off, the deck often needs boards replaced. Chimneys from the 1920s frequently need new flashing and a sound crown.
Most calls here come down to roof repair, flat roofs, roof replacement, slate & older roofs, leaks & storm damage or gutters & flashing. The same number covers all six.
Big trees along the park edge mean full gutters in fall and the occasional limb in a storm. Keep an eye on both.
